I haven't seen Fringe OR Flashforward but everyone tells me that FF is great. I am sad that you don't like it Mellie

I've just been overdosing on Supernatural. I'm almost done with season three (done during the strike year) and I'm really attatched to the characters. It's nothing deep - sort of like Buffy-lite for boys - but I'm pretty sure I'm lusting after at least one of the brothers. Maybe two.
There's a really big Dean/Sam shipping community so maybe I'll just forego crushing and ship them together? *wiggles eyebrows* All I read about on the interwebs is "Wincest is best!"

After Supernatural I'll be starting Battlestar Galactica. I know. I am officially the biggest nerd on this board. *sigh* All my RL friends are OBSESSED with the show and have convinced me that is is "THE BEST SHOW EVER"...we'll see.

Also, after ODing on Doctor Who a few weeks ago, now everytime there is violence in a show I just sort of cringe away from it. *heavy sigh* I try to cheer when Dean Winchester kicks Vampire butt or when Sam Winchester destroys a demon but in a small corner of my mind (the area owned by Russell T. Davies) I'm wincing and saying "They can't help what they are! Help them be different!" Again, this is Mellie's fault.

I do love seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John Winchester. He makes a freaking hot dad.
And I just watched the first season of Weeds...I'm sensing a trend with this man - HE IS ALWAYS PLAYING THE DEAD GUY WHO EVERYONE LOVES!!!

I can't explain it - but I'm just a little bit in love that show. It's cheesy and at times feels like American Gods meets On the Road - but their brotherly relationship makes me so happy.

I'll stop rambling now, but you get the point.

ETA: Expect some Supernatural-themed signatures soon. I know you all need a break from the onslaught of DW sigs that have recently cropped up in my posts.

ETA2: OH! I forgot - I also watched the first three episodes of Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
Woah - definitely not used to seeing Billie the Piper in that kind of role.
Also, it made me want to become a secret call girl.
Just sayin'!

After Supernatural I'll be starting Battlestar Galactica. I know. I am officially the biggest nerd on this board. *sigh* All my RL friends are OBSESSED with the show and have convinced me that is is "THE BEST SHOW EVER"...we'll see.

If it isn't the BEST, it comes pretty damn close. I started watching it during the last season and have just gone back and rented all the other seasons and am now rewatching the episodes that I first watched. This isn't a SciFi show; it is a people show that happens to use space as a setting. It grapples with some heavy issues - faith, conscience, love- and how people behave in the face of war and genocide. Seriously, some of the best acting and really well written. I was dead set against this show when it was first announced. I loved the original show and remember watching it Saturday nights with my brother before the "Muppet Show", and I was scandalized that Dirk Benedict's cigar chomping/womanizing character, Starbuck, was being recast as a woman. But now, I am a HUGE supporter and can't imagine anyone other than Katee Sackoff playing "Starbuck". She redefined the role for me!

LMAO!! Weeeeeeeell, I think that it might also be David Tennant's fault, but you can't blame him.

Not so much in Watchmen, although he is dead. Yeah, he likes playing the dead dudes.

Wait till you see the episode where she sleeps with Matt Smith BKA the Eleventh Doctor!! It is SO META!!!!

I've only heard the best things about Battlestar and even better things about Starbuck so I'm really excited! I'll be DL them all very soon.

'Flashforward': the Next 'Lost' or the Next 'Heroes'?

Now that ABC's new sci-fi drama FlashForward has been given a full-season pickup (a plump 25-episode order rather than the standard 22), it's time to decide whether I plan to be around for the entire season. The premise definitely whetted my appetite: everyone on Earth blacks out for�2 minutes and�17 seconds, during which they get a preview of what's to come for them six months in the future. Will knowing what happens in the future give them a shot at changing it? What if they don't want it changed? There's a lot to plumb, questions about fate and choice that would seem to lend themselves well to a series. But so far, I'm not sure FlashForward is making good on its promise.

From the beginning, the show's producers have been vocal about avoiding comparisons between their show and Lost, and who can blame them? Lost is a cultural phenomenon-why set yourself up to lose the expectations game? But ABC has been promoting FlashForward as a worthy successor to Lost, and just in time as the tropical mind-bender prepares for its final season next year. And if the goal was to tamp down Lost comparisons, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to cast not one, but two cast members of that show (Sonya Walger and Dominic Monaghan).

But so far, Lost it ain't. The pilot wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great-certainly not of the quality of Lost, which remains one of the best pilots in television history. The premise is the star of the FlashForward more so than anyone in the ensemble, and three episodes in I haven't become attached to any of the characters yet. I'm mildly interested in Demetri Noh (John Cho) who doesn't have a vision during his blackout, and fears that he is destined to die before then. Aside from him, I don't care enough about any of these people to be emotionally invested in what happens to them six months hence. And so far, all the show's questions of fate and choice have felt more like watching an undergraduate philosophy-class discussion than a compelling genre show.

Unless it shapes up over the course of its run (as shows often do as they find their footing), FlashForward will not be remember as the successor to Lost, but rather as the successor to Heroes, a show that has made a fine art of audience attrition. It seems like a lifetime, but it was only three years ago when Heroes was the hot science-fiction thriller du jour. It even managed to garner nods for best drama series at the Emmys and the Golden Globes. Flash-forward to the present, where its ratings are continuing to free-fall in its fourth (and quite possibly final) season, and the people still watching seem to be doing so more out of defiance than anything else. It's this fall from grace that the producers of FlashForward need to be paying attention to. As Lost and Heroes demonstrate, the setup is easy. It's the execution that trips you up.

First: I had to google attrition.

Second: Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are TV writing gods. I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan of the show, but because they have been able to balance some of the crayziest, mindfuckery ever on television. I feel like I should now start watching Flashforward just so I can be in this conversation!

And I enjoyed Heroes, but I've only seen through season 2. The writer's strike basically killed that show in it's 2nd season and everyone I know who still watches that show are of the fanatic-OMGBESTFRUGGINGSHOWEVERSYLARCHEERLEADERSBETTERTHANLOST!!!-variety.

I keep meaning to go back and watch season 3 & the rest of it, but I can never remember to make time for it. I won't lie though - I watched mainly for the Petrelli bothers (I love Adrian Pasdar) and Zachary Quinto as Sylar. GUH. That man can act.

Supernatural update: I have no idea where this show is going, but I am definitely fangirling over Jensen Ackles. I'm about to go out and rent My Bloody Valentine just to see him in something other than this show. I know. Sick. I don't even like scary movies! That's how you know I've got it bad...

I watched Flashfoward! I'm caught up to the current episode.
So far I really like it...but holy crap - I was spotting LOST actor left and right and even one from Doctor Who!
I was like "PENNY! Cassidy (Kate's con-artist friend/Sawyer's baby momma)! RIVER SONG!??!!? WTF?"

Sooo, I get REALLY frightened everytime they show the footage of that baseball game in Detroit. I get chills and everything. It's so eerie!

The Prisoner is a remake of an old BBC show from the 60s. I might try to catch a few episodes here and there although I am trying not to get into any more new shows.

Anyone watching The Office?
Last weeks episode was one of the best since season 3 or 4! When Oscar does his 'southern' accent I started rolling on the ground. HILARIOUS.
Also - Pam in the Mexican standoff with Michael, Dwight and Andy....freaking awesome!!!

I LOVE The Office. Hands down my favorite show on television...and not, just not because of John Krasinski (although, it doesn't hurt!) I am finally living on my own again and having a DVR is fantastic. I can watch what I want, when I want! Too bad I missed the beginning of soooo many shows: Heroes, FF, etc.

I am very sad that Monk is coming to an end. I am a tad (okay, a few tads) OCD and I have loved the show since episode 1. I really hope he catches Trudy's killer!

Getting closer to the end of Battlestar Gallactica, which is actually where I started watching it on TV, and I simply cannot get over the quality of this show. I am so glad that it wasn't on a major network from a creative standpoint, but this show deserved a bigger audience. It is abso-frakking-lutely amazing. And if you don't believe me, ask Brad Paisley, who apparently is a HUGE BSG fanboy. HEE!
