First off, let's all thank Indie for her brilliant idea. I hope that I speak for most of us when I say that I am very excited to hear everything you brilliant women think about the books we decide to read!

First book up (and I think we are all in agreement here as well) should be Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. I would like to propose 7 days of reading time, per chapter, with a discussion after each chapter. Perhaps a start date of July 5th, with discussions following each Sunday? Obviously, we can't all be online at the same time, but I think that as long as the readers are keeping up with the discussion, our book club will be a success! Please feel free to post your opinions and let's go from there!

YAY for Indie. Brilliant idea, again. I can't wait to actually READ LOTR, haha. I just can't push through them...

Oooh, yay! This is exciting!

I'm glad you picked a date a few weeks from now. I'm about to start reading Gone with the Wind and the Red Tent so I'll be a bit busy with other books for the next two weeks or so.

Also, I don't have my LOTR books with me in Chicago, so this will be a good time for me to swing by and pick up a cheap trade paper omnibus of all three.

Can't wait!

Actually, I was going to suggest reading The Hobbit first. It is shorter.

Let's start with The Hobbit on July 5th. Discussions will begin the following Sunday, and will continue thereafter. One chapter per week. We could, of course, up the chapter count should we find that simply too little.

Okay, July 5th is here! The Book Club is officially open for business. First chapter discussion, The Hobbit, Chapter One, "An Unexpected Party" will be open for comments on Sunday July 12th. Happy reading!

Note to all: Hope you don't mind that I kind of took over in running this thing. I would be glad to give up the reins if Indie or another would like to host!

So....anyone read Chapter 1? I did and I happen to absolutely LOVE the whole part where the dwarves are showing up at Bilbo's door and he is so unaware. It's very LOL.

I love that the dwarves have very little respect for Bilbo's stuff. In real life, that would make me mad as hell, but in the book, it works!

That chapter with Gollum is really interesting. In FOTR, Gandalf says that the story Bilbo told the group about his encounter with Gollum wasn't what actually happened and he later on had to drag the truth out of him. I have a hard time finding the discrepancy in the books. Did anything stand out to you all?
