It breaks my heart when there are people in this world who long to be educated and they can't get it for one reason or another, and you have our country where everyone can get an education and they get crapped on by the system.

All of the speakers I have seen have been great so far. I was moved to tears by Teddy Kennedy.

how does everyone feel about mccain's choice for vp?
she seems well and good but her experience is lacking and i think mccain is just picking her to appeal to the women voters that voted for hillary. any opinions? ps. props to obama for saying that her family is "off limits" when asked to comment on palin's daughter's teen pregnancy.

I like her. I think she'd do a good job as vp.

She is the diametric opposite of Hillary Clinton, and I would hope that anyone who would vote for her simply because of her gender would take a long hard look at her positions on issues before voting for her. Personally, I can't think of anyone less qualified for the job. (Except maybe me.) I also think that putting her family in the public spotlight at this time (with her pregnant, teenage daughter and with an infant with Down's Syndrome) is not terribly responsible. I don't consider those the actions of a responsible parent. If she is willing to do that to her family to further her ambitions, what is she willing to do to the country????? She is full of crap about her accomplishments as governor too. Anyone who can use the internet, or read the New York Times, can find examples where her actions do not match up with her talking points. Plus, there were people doctoring up her Wikipedia entry the night before the announcement to make her look better. Ultimately, the Vice President needs to be someone who can be president if anything happens to the President, and this woman in my opinion is not Presidential material. Joe Biden most certainly is. Go Joe-Bama!! props to obama for saying that her family is "off limits" when asked to comment on palin's daughter's teen pregnancy. Michelle and Barack must be so happy that their girls are still under the age of puberty.

My granddad is the same way, and so is a friend of mine's grandmother. I think that a lot of older people are having a hard time dealing with that. People who wouldn't say they are racist, but they still have an intrinsic fear of "the black man". Shame really.

i agree with mellie.
in something completely not political though, palin always makes me think of this villain:
probably not nice but she does.

Ugh. Palin.
The RNC is driving me insane with all the "whats the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? LIPSTICK" thunderous applause. Uck. John McCain has a lot of experience so I'm sure that we all might survive if he became president...but can you imagine if Palin actually had to step up as the president should anything happen to McCain...OMG. NOOOOOOO! Indie

hahah - so true, Kaity!
You're always there to keep me in line! But still...JUST IN CASE - I think the person should be a bit more qualified. DUDES - WHEN HER HUSBAND WAS AN INDEPENDENT HE VOTED FOR ALASKA TO BECOME ITS OWN NATION. (He is now a registered Republican) Yeah, I know - when I heard that on CNN this morning I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. The news caster was like "talk about skeletons in the closet..." Indie

I know what you're saying. In either case, I think both candidates would have a large "support group" (so to speak) to fall back on.
I'm getting sick of all these political ads. *throws shoe at tv*

But still...JUST IN CASE - I think the person should be a bit more qualified. C'mon, that is not the point and having that attitude isn't good!! The point is having a person who is qualified to be President be the Vice President. PERIOD. You aren't going to pick just anyone off the street. Most of the time the person picked as Vice President is the person who is going to be tapped next by the party to run for President. (Cheney didn't need to run for President; he has been pulling the puppet strings of George W. for the last 8 years anyhow.) Let's not forget: the Vice President isn't just part of the Executive Branch of the government; the Vice President holds a role in the Legislative Branch as well - as the President of the United States Senate. It is my understanding that at least once a year that the Vice President temporarily assumes the Presidency, although it is usually for such a short period of time that no one makes a big deal about it (it is during the President's physical.)
