What is the history of Arwen and Galadriel: what is their relationship?
Arwen is Galadriel's granddaughter and lived with her mother's kin in Lorien for a while before meeting Aragorn. Broken down, Arwen is the daughter of Celebrain, who is the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. ![]() |

Actually I think it's a pretty name. It means 'silver crowned'.
And it much better than the name Tolkien originally gave Celeborn: Teleporno. ![]() |

QUESTION... | ||
|
I kinda just finished reading ROTK and my mind got all confused, are there 3 battles that happen in it?

Re: QUESTION... | ||
|
ARE THERE THREE BATTLES IN ROTK?
yeah, okay, first of all there's the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, which is where the Witch-king of the Nazgul led an assault on Gondor. First he encounters Thedon's army of the Riders of Rohan. Theodon is mortally wounded there, and he dies. Eowyn- who has been disguised as a rider- slays the Witch-king, while I think Merry slays the creature the witch-king rides. They're both wounded as well. Sometime later, I think, or maybe at that point- I'm not sure- Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli show up with Prince Imrahil, and the rest of the Grey Company, and they bring some other people as well, I think. I'm not sure who, you'll have to ask Morri. Anyway, that's one battle. After that, Aragorn leads all the armies to Mount Doom, to confront Sauron. This is while Frodo and Samr are trying to get into Mount Doom to destroy the ring. SO meanwhile, Aragorn and all the armies fight a battle against Sauron at the Black Gate. So that's the second battle, there's two. All right, I hope that covered it for you. Morri can fill in the gaps and anything I've missed! ![]() |

Cool.
Do we have any other important sticky-worthy threads in here? ![]() |

Re: question | ||

Sure.
Most of the other maybe-sticky-worthy threads tend to stay at the top on their own, so we don't have to worry about them... ![]() |

Quote:I'm not sure I can explain it... This Q&A from TORN's Green Books might help, but I'm not sure. ETA: A poster on TORC named Anti-Sauron answered some questions about the One Ring and the Rings of Power in this thread. Some of the stuff he/she said might be relevant to your question. ![]() |

Re: question | ||

ok, I might have already asked this in a different thread, but I forgot the answer if I did. Ok, so the question is: Where do Elves go when they die? Because, in the movies, Elrond is all upset because if Arwen loses her Imortality, and then dies, thenhe will never see her again. but, won't she go to the same place whether it's by the boat now, or by death later? I'm confused.

Re: question | ||

i think that, yes, when the elves in middle-earth died they went to the halls of the Iluvatar, which is where they eventually ended up when they crossed over the sea, but i think- and i'm not sure- that when arwen stayed with aragorn and gave up her immortality she couldn't ever go to the undying lands, even after she died. but i'm not sure, so maybe morri can clear it up.

Re: question | ||

I though it was the Halls of Mandos, but I haven't read The Silmarillion in ages, so I could be wrong.
Elf Lover 16 is right. Basically when someone dies, they go to the Halls of Mandos (which is located in Valinor), but Elves and Men (and Dwarves and probably Hobbits too) go to different part of the Halls of Mandos, and the Elves can also be "released" into Valinor if they were good in life (Finrod Felagund was immediately allowed to leave the Halls of Mandos and walk "with Finarfin his father beneath the trees in Eldamar"). Anyway, since Elves and Men are separated from each other once they die, Elrond will be separated from Arwen even after she dies as she chose to be counted among Men, not Elves. ![]() |

ahem... I have one question about Fellowship of the Ring...
When fellowship minus Gandalf are at the Galadriel's place and everyone are mourning for Gandalf Why Aragorn hits Gimli? Is it just because he sleeps when everyone else mourns? That bothers me just a little. And because I haven't read the book I don't know is it in there also. ![]() "I don't like to lose control of my emotions..." - James Leer in Wonder Boys |
