I think the board looks great, I love the backgrounds. I considered joining a couple of times, but I don't know that much so I chickened out! Maybe I will join though!

Thanks Lairewen
Dont worry you dont need to know much about Elves or the language as thats what we are all there for...to learn from and teach each other and to basically just have fun... Oh and the picture sections are also fan clubs so you can go and post pics of the elves like Legolas and Haldir but you can also post pics in there of Orlando and Craig as well as talking about them with other fans Its also a good place to get help with translating things |

Allright then, I've made my opinion:
1. Sir Will, I will kidnap you to my own kingdom into the valley, and keep you here doing Sindarin translation in my palace near the river! 2. And then, I want to learn Sindarin AND Quenya, and I will! I've noticed my mumsie has been around here... *waves to Vana* Just remembered that there was something I wanted to know... What could aurora be in Elvish? Aurora or northen lights... |

*waves back at Auroora*
In Sindarin, you could say galad-en-foron "light of the north", or in Quenya, calaformenion meaning the same. ...The Island of the Hot Elves awaits: Orli's Goddesses MB... - - - - - - - Proud Member of the Waiting for the Return of the King Club! |

Such a beautiful Quenya greeting Laura ...A star shall shine on the hour of our meeting ...Elen sla lmenn' omentielvo
Although I must confess I do not know Quenya that well, only a few words, as I much prefer Sindarin.. But I can say this in Quenya... Take off your clothes and lie down on the bed! ...plus I can say... I don't speak Quenya. Your hair shines like gold. My sig says.... Meleth galo vi i hn uin pn ai tiri am n bain thr. Sir Will, maybe I'll just invite you here...
I was just wondering, how in Middle-Earth did you first find your way to a board that is dedicated to Orlando? Just curious... And by the way, thanks for the beautiful words! Re: Sindarin Elvish Help

We as you can see I am interested in Elves
So I just go looking at places and when I find one I like I settle down with a nice little Sindarin Help thread like this one and thats where I stay, not venturing out onto the rest of the board unless I get brave I do the same at this other board called the Palantir, although there I basically restrict my posts to the Orlando section and to my fan club |

I see...
I was just wondering that do the elves have a special word for aurora (meaning the dawn). Because I think, that Quote:, means the northern lights,as well as Quote:, am I right? In Sindarin... minuial ...is the word for dawn
galen forn = light of the north forodren calad = northern light So yeah both of them mean the same thing really I'm only just starting to learn Quenya which I think is what you are writing in but .... formenya cala = northern light |

Re: Sindarin Elvish Help

hey everyone!! Can anyone translate this into Sindarin for me?
Where once was light Now darkness falls Where once was love Love is no more Don't say goodbye Don't say I didn't try These tears we cry Are falling rain For all the lies you told us The hurt, the blame! And we will weep to be so alone We are lost We can never go home So in the end I'll be what I will be No loyal friend Was ever there for me Now we say goodbye We say you didn't try These tears you cry Have come too late Take back the lies The hurt, the blame! And you will weep When you face the end alone You are lost You can never go home You are lost You can never go home you might recognize this as gollum's song 'cause it is! I would love it if anyone could translate all of it into the proper Sindarin words.. also, it would be great if you could translate it to the closest words, since i know that sometimes modern words don't have a sindarin counterpart. THANK YOU!! I've been lurking for a while, just haven't had the timet to post again... Wild n Crazy Nights with a wet Orli and Viggo! Meetings: Every time Orli and/or Viggo get Crazy! |

Mae govannen, Hr Will istol!
Please, I am a newbie learning Sindarin. If you wouldn't mind, look at some short poems of mine that are posted here: www.istad.org/tolkien/poetry.html And point out my mistakes! For everyone else, I have the translations word-for-word and side-by-side with each poem, plus there's a recording of me singing one which is a lullabye. Le hannon in advance, Hr Will! ![]() |

Firiel looked out at three o' clock
|
Ack. I need to put a stanza of this poem into the next installment of the Legolas story I'm posting. The original was from a poem by Tolkien that I'm trying to translate into Elvish, and happens to suit my chapter well. I've had to change it so that you could believe it's a wood-elf's song: that means I've rephrased things so the meter works.
See how badly I've mangled this, pretty please! I Gair Vedui (The Last Ship) from The Tolkien Reader Ir l thinner Friel tirn am: I fuin thind gwannant. I aurlinn, aew goll, palan * Gaun nallant lim a maeg. Gelaidh duir, minuial gael ** In emlin echuianner. *** Gwaew athrant, i rhing a lhain Tr thlaiss rennianner. When stars faded, Firiel looked out: The gray night was going. The day-singer, golden bird, far away Crowed a clear and shrill cry. Trees were dark, dawn was pale, The yellowhammers awakened. A wind passed, that cool and frail Strayed through the grass. *aurlinn ~ my reconcstruction for "rooster", based on dlinn, "nightingale". Day-singer as opposed to night-singer. ** ~ I think you don't lenit adjectives when the sentence structure is: "Subject [is] adjective", right? *** ~ I actually found a soundfile of these little guys. They're small and cheeping, so they fit the original poem's meaning better without forcing me to throw in too many words. Here's Tolkien's original: "Firiel looked out at three o clock; the grey night was going; far away a golden @#%$ clear and shrill was crowing. The trees were dark, and the dawn pale, The waking birds were cheeping. a wind moved cool and frail through dim leaves creeping." |

shmoozy23 here is Gollums song translated into Sindarin for you, of course there are words that do not translate but only a couple of words couldnt be done, so were either left out or something else was used that could be taken the same way as the other words when read with the rest of the words.
