aww.. i was hoping to translate my chinese name into Elvish.. weird i know :lol

.. my chinese name is Wen and apparently that means madien in Quenya as well.. perfect

Lady its not weird to want to translate your chinese name into Elvish.. I just wish that I could help.

Oh and just incase anyone was interested in what I said in elvish to Leal here it is and the english translation below it...

Vedui' Leal, Lle quena i'lambe tel' Eldalie?

Ta eina amin nae ie' omenta lle no' sina lirima Narvinye re ri' dome manka ta dome manke lle ar'.

I have a question.

Okay Rohan is a Sindarin name, roh (from roch) meaning 'horse'. Anyway, the word used to define the people of Rohan is Rohirrim right, and not Rohans?

Tolkien uses Rohirrim (or Eorlingas, which is Old English) to describe the people, but I have noticed in a lot of LotR programs (namely Return to Middle-Earth) some people say Rohans.

It bugs the heck out of me, especially since some of the people who do that (like Karl Urban!) should know better!

The people of Rohan are horse riders and the word for horse riders in Sindarin is Rohirrim.

although I am glad that you basically worked out what I had said to you...

You are all very smart ladies here so I dont expect to be needed very much to help with Sindarin but if any of you need me I will be around somewhere, you can find me on a couple of other sites here and there...

If I am not here I will be either at The Sexy Elves board, The Poetry Board, The Phobia Board or The Heath & Orlando board..

Hey! I know that one!

Sweet water and light laughter till next we meet.

I recognized the words for 'sweet' and 'laughter', from reading The Unfinished Tales... but that's about as far as my Elvish goes.

I also found the phrase here.

That page is a bit... strange. One because it uses some words I know for a fact Tolkien naver has. Like Drow. Unless I'm terribly mistaken, the Drow are a Dungeons and Dragonish creation. Tolkien never has used them or that word. Nor has he used centaurs.

A lot of the words are obviously taken from Tolkien's Elvish languages, but they're not his words. He calls the Grey Elves the Sindar, not Mith'quessir. Men are known as the Edain, Half-Elves are called Peredhil, not Halflings (who are called Periannath in Tolkien's Elvish). And Gnomes were the early name Tolkien gave the Noldor.

I don't get it. Why use the literal word for Sea-Elf, when Tolkien already named them the Teleri?

ETA: Never mind. I found out why the language was so strange. "The Grey Company's Elven is a growing language based 'loosely' on the elven found throughout JRR Tolkiens works." Okay, so it's not actually Tolkien's Elvish -- Just a pseudo-Elvish. It makes sense now.

Did you make that yourself ? I am getting my sister to make me some things like that but they are not as good as that Gollum or some of the other pics I've seen in the sigs here

Yup. Made it meself.

I actually made it from an images I had edited to use in my LJ, but decided not to... *lol* The thing is, now that I have a bezillion TTT screencaps (thanks to Xanne

) I want to make a new Haldiresque signature...

Maybe I'll keep Gollum for a little while longer, though...
