Prologue | ||
|
They were intoxicating. They were something I couldnt avoid. Since the day I first looked into his eyes, I havent been free. They told me that he wanted me. That was the first mistake I made. His eyes were my weakness. He knew that. He knew that he could get anything he wanted from me. One look into his eyes, and I found that I couldnt say no.
They are what destroyed my life. They are why my world shattered around me. His eyes are what haunted me wherever I went. I could never escape his words of anger or the sharp hits that would follow. He told me he loved me. How could you hurt someone you love? Id looked into his eyes when hed beg me to stay. How could I leave him? He needed me. |

This is one I've been messing with for a while. I thought I'd post it here even if it is an Elijah story. Some of you have read it and some haven't. Enjoy!

Chapter 1 | ||
|
The day I met Elijah, my life was changed forever. It was dark and stormy which was pretty typical weather for that time of year. I was without a car and had already walked fifteen blocks from the university. As I passed the local coffee house, a smell floated through the air. The scent made me stop in my tracks. I thought a cup of coffee would definitely take the chill out of the evening.
I walked through the double doors and there I stood. My brown hair was completely wet. I could have sworn that everyones eyes were focused on me as my clothes and hair continued to drip. The place was definitely crowded. No one wanted to face the storm that was raging outside. I got in line, and waited for my turn. As expected people began lining up behind me as I moved forward. When it was my turn to order, I still hadnt figured out what I wanted. Everything sounded so good that night. I finally just ordered a large mocha. I began digging through my purse frantically trying to find my money to pay for my drink. Suddenly I was embarrassed. I had left my wallet in the science lab on campus. I apologized to the woman behind the counter and cancelled my order. I sighed and walked away. I wanted to warm up a little bit before I went back out into the rain. I was going to have to visit the lost and found in the morning. I really hoped that it had been turned in. I sat in the corner and stared out the window. The rain was coming down pretty hard by that time. It was going to be one long walk home. Suddenly someone sat a cup in front of me. I looked up and my breath got caught in my throat. I found myself gazing into the most gorgeous blue eyes I had ever seen. It took me a moment to regain my voice. What..what is this? I stuttered. Its just as you ordered, one large mocha. Do you work for the coffee house? No Maam. Im just stopping by for some coffee like you. May I take a seat? Elijah took off the black coat he had been wearing. His spiked hair was a bit wet from the rain, but it still looked good. Of course, Mr Elijah Wood. You can all me Lij though. Everybody else does. Ok Lij. What made you decide to bring me coffee? How did you even know what I wanted? I was standing right behind you in line. He smirked. I smiled. He was really cute. His eyes were unlike any that Ive ever seen before. It should be illegal to have eyes so gorgeous. Suddenly I had a hand waving in front of my face. Hello. Time to come back to earth. Elijah laughed. I shook my head and attempted to bring myself back to reality. So whats your name? He asked. My name? Im Elizabeth Hennings. Elijah reached across the table and held his hand out to shake mine. Lovely to meet you. So what brings you here on such an icky night? I had biology lab. The class ended up taking longer than usual. I was in a hurry to get home since I saw the storm coming. Thats how I forgot my wallet. No car? No boyfriend to pick you up? I shook my head. Nope. Thats a shame. Id be happy to give you a ride if you want. I wouldn't want you to get sick from walking in the rain. That is very kind of you. I broke out into a smile. Id really appreciate a ride home. Are you ready to go? He asked me. He had already begun to put his arms in the sleeves of the jacket. I sure am. I looked in my almost empty cup and took a final drink. Okay. Do you have your jacket? Yeah. I started walking to the trashcan that was right by the door. After throwing it away, we stepped outside and stood under the awning. As we tried to determine the quickest way to get to his car, lightning streaked across the sky. Forgetting about the rain, Elijah had grabbed my hand and started running towards the car. The storm was getting even worse. |

Chapter 2 | ||
|
It hadnt taken Elijah and I very long to get to his car. When he reached out to grab my hand, I almost dropped my books. We must have been a sight to see! After that flash of lightening, the rain started to fall faster. So by the time we made it to the car we were nearly soaked. Elijah was even more wet than I was! He had run around and opened the car door for me. Once he hopped in his side he smiled at me. I couldnt but smile back. He had rain dripping from his hair. He looked even more gorgeous now that he was wet.
Elijah was the first to break the gaze between us. He faced the steering wheel, buckled up, and pulled out of the space he had been parked in. I just sat in the passenger seat and listened to the steady sound of the rain hitting the windshield. Once we had reached Main Street, he asked for directions to my place. I quickly gave it to him, and since it was a small town, we arrived at my apartment within minutes. Elijah shut off the engine and turned to face me. Well this even sure turned out different than I expected. I smiled. What were you expecting? Walking home in the rain. Sitting in my apartment. Who knows? I may have turned on the TV. All those things sound like theyd be more fun with someone to share it with. I laughed at him. Probably, but remember I have no boyfriend? Well I may not be your boyfriend, but I would love to hang out with you some more. Perhaps we could get coffee sometime. Elijah just chuckled at his own joke. I couldnt believe it. He was charming, sweet, funny and everything Id ever wanted. I was in love. |

Chapter 3 | ||
|
Id like that. I told him. He and I continued to talk as the rain kept falling. After ten minutes another streak of lightning raced across the sky. I cringed. Elijah? Do you think its safe for us to be sitting in a car during this storm?
Who knows. He laughed. Should we risk it? I'm not so sure I want to. Would you like to come inside? We can talk some more in there. If you don't feel like it though, I understand. Say no more. Id love to. Elijah grabbed his keys, put his hood over his head, and raced over to my side of the vehicle. I grabbed my books and hopped out as soon as the door opened. We ran towards the building as fast as we could. I had a difficult time trying to run and pull my keys out of the pocket. After nearly falling into the mud, we both reached the door. I couldnt believe this man. He had to have been nuts. Why would anyone follow me around in the rain? I barely knew him. He sure made that night more fun than it would have been. I finally found my keys and unlocked the door to my apartment. Once we entered we burst out laughing. I had never seen it rain so much in my life. Elijah wasnt so sure what to do since he was soaking wet. I assured him that it was ok to walk further inside. He kicked off his muddy shoes and followed me into the main room. I rushed to get some towels. Then I had a better idea. Towels werent going to work. He was too wet for that. I looked at him and said, Would you like to get out of those wet clothes and take a shower? Youre welcome to if youd like. But I dont have any dry clothes to change into. Oh, don't worry. I can take care of that |

Chapter 4 | ||
|
I laughed as I gave Elijah a towel and sent him to the shower. I then went to my room to change. I could always take a shower after he left. I changed into some flannel nighties and then tried to find something for Lij to wear. I dont know why I offered to find him something. I didnt have anything! I sighed and went through my bottom dresser drawer. I knew I had some sort of pants there. When I had opened it up, all I found were some pants with drawstrings. I chuckled as I realized this was all I had to offer him. They were covered with flowers, fairies, or hearts. I made a quick decision and picked the flowered one.
After I pulled my wet hair up into a ponytail, I took the pants and went towards the bathroom. I had put my head to the door and heard the water running. Since I had told him that Id bring him something to wear, he had left the door cracked open slightly. I opened it a little more and yelled, Knock knock! Hello! He said to me. You have some nice smelling soap in here. Thanks. I laughed. Your clothes are by the sink. Ill be in the kitchen. Ok! I shook my head. This had been a weird night. I walked to the kitchen and started to make hot cocoa. Just as the water started to boil Elijah walked into the kitchen. Is this supposed to be some sort of joke? He asked. I turned around and laughed. He was wearing the flowered drawstring pants. They settled loosely above his hips, as he stood there shirtless in my kitchen. I swear! Its all I had! Do you want some sort of shirt? Is there a matching top? Yes. Burn it. Elijah finally laughed. This will be fine. What are you doing? Making cocoa. Would you like some? Sure! I love cocoa. Its always been one of my favorites. Do you want some marshmallows? I sprinkled them over the mug. We continued to talk and slowly moved into the living room to sit on the couch. We sat there for hours. I dont remember what we talked about exactly, but I was nearly in heaven. I had only met the man a few hours before, but already felt that I had known him for most of my life. More time passed and I gasped when I looked at the clock. It was nearly three in the morning! Elijah noticed my eyes had looked away and glanced in the same direction. Oh my gosh! He cried. ItsI cant believe its so late. I should probably go. Elijah ran to the bathroom where he had left his clothes to dry. He came back into the room and smiled when I asked, Arent you going to change? His clothes were still wet. Well, if its all the same to you perhaps I can return them later. If you want to. I laughed as I walked him to the door. Its your reputation. Besides, if I keep them itll give me a chance to see you again. We paused as we reached the doorway. I looked into his eyes as I heard him say, I had a great time tonight. So did I. I hope we can do it again sometime. Elijahs face inched closer to mine. Me too. I Before I could finish my sentence his lips covered mine in a simple kiss. GNight. He whispered. GNight. |

Chapter 5 | ||
|
It was a week before I next saw Elijah. I had pretty much given up any hope of seeing him again. He left with my pants and a kiss. My very first kiss, and I didnt even expect it. That night, I found myself sitting in a booth at the local coffee shop. I smiled as I sat down. It was the same booth he and I sat in the week before.
That evening was pretty similar to our last meeting. It was Friday night. I had gotten out of my lab and had once again found myself walking home in the rain. However, I had my wallet this time. So I entered the coffee shop and ordered with confidence. I had checked behind me. He wasnt there. I sighed, picked up my drink, and went to sit down. Where is he? Whats he doing right now? I wondered. Having nothing else to do, I began to watch the rain as it hit the window. Why did I even care about Elijah? We only spent one evening together. Yet, every waking moment I was thinking about him. I would probably never see him again anyway. I tried my best to break away from my thoughts of him. I just continued to listen to the sound of the rain. "Hey pretty lady. You look really familiar. Do I know you?" My heart jumped at the sound of the voice. I looked up and gazed into the eyes of the man who spoke. Elijah grinned. Hey you! I was beginning to think I lost my pants. Elijah laughed and sat across from me. Yeah. Theyre at home. If I had known Id be seeing you tonight, I would have brought them along. Though, I wouldnt dare bring them out in public anymore if I didnt have to. I told you. I know. I got some very strange looks from people when I went home last week. I laughed. So what have you been up to this last week? When you werent wearing my pants of course. Ive just been working. Then in my spare time Ive been sitting around and thinking about you. What about you? I see youve found your wallet. He motioned towards my coffee. Yes! The professor found it after class and turned it in. I was so happy. My entire life if in this thing! Im glad you found it. He smirked. Me too! Now you dont have to buy me anymore coffee! Actually, Ive been thinking about that since the night I left your house. That wasnt a proper date. Date? Was that even a date? I dont know. If it was, it sure wasnt a typical one. I laughed. You're probably right. Anyway, I was wondering, would you like to go out with me tomorrow? He asked trying to avoid making eye contact. Tomorrow? Yeah. Are you busy? Me busy? I chuckled. Sure! What time were you thinking? How about 4 oclock. Does that sound good? Yeah! Hey, can I have your phone number? He asked. I hadnt thought of asking you until now. I pulled a pen out of my purse and wrote my number on a napkin. Keep that dry. Ill do my best. Hey, do you think you could give me a lift home? Of course. Do you remember how to get there? Yes Maam. Elijah and I left the coffee house and headed for my home. He dropped me off and walked me to my door. So its a date? Its a date. I smiled. |

Chapter 6 | ||
|
After our second meeting at the coffee shop I was ecstatic. I couldnt believe he had asked me out. Once he dropped me off at home I headed to the bathroom to get ready for bed.
I had a hard time going to sleep that night. I tossed and turned as I grinned with excitement. Tomorrow wasnt coming fast enough. I stared at the ceiling and wondered what he was planning for our date. A little while later I finally drifted off to sleep. The next day I woke up around noon. That was pretty typical for me on a Saturday. Once I had my cup of coffee I made my way to the bathroom. It was time to make myself beautiful. I had spent three hours in that bathroom. It was as good as it was going to get. I stood in front of my mirror and examined my reflection. I was wearing a pair of khaki shorts and a white sleeveless top. Along the neckline of the shirt there were little flowers embroidered. My light brown hair was pulled back, but I shook my head as I found that a few curls managed to escape. I wanted this day to be perfect. I reached into my pocket and retrieved my lip-gloss. I spread it evenly across my lips and smiled. Perfect I thought. An hour later I heard a knock. Not wanting to appear overanxious I walked over and slowly opened the door. Elijah was faced the other way. When he heard me behind him he swung around in a panic and whispered, Is anyone else here? No. Why? Come in. Oh good! He sighed. I needed to return this. Elijah reached into his jacket and retrieved my pants. All I could manage to do was laugh. I couldnt believe this guy! He was charming one minute and a complete nerd the next! I had to make sure no one saw me. People thought the flowers were a little too feminine. Although I think these pants really did something for my figure. Would you mind if I traded these in for another pair? Elijah grinned. I cant believe you! Youre too funny! I try. I hear that girls like a guy who can make them laugh. Is it working? Maybe. Perhaps this will help. He reached into his jacket again, but this time a rose appeared. A beautiful flower for a beautiful lady. Youre definitely getting closer. I giggled. So what are we doing today? We are going on a picnic. Great! We made our way to the city park. The sound of children laughing and screaming hung in the air. Elijah shook his heard and led me to a spot underneath a tree. Before I sat down I took a moment to help him unfold and lay out the blanket. Minutes later we were spread out, and Elijah was digging through a basket filled with food. Let me see here. He pulled out some sandwiches. You liked peanut butter sandwiches with honey, right? How did you know? You told me the night we met. You remember that? Of course. I remember everything you say. How can this be? I thought. This man is a dream come true. Ive never met a man so perfect. Was he even real? Or had I spent too much time in the biology lab? Hello. Elijah waved his hand in front of me. I seem to lose you a lot. Is something wrong? Not a thing. I smiled. Time began to fly by. Twenty minutes into our conversation I had completely abandoned my sandwich. Everything that came from his lips seemed completely fascinating. His words ceased when he heard thunder come from overhead. Uh oh. He said. This looks like itll be a big one. We should probably get out of here. I nodded and helped him pick up the items we had used. We reached his car just as it started sprinkling. Where do you want to go? He asked once sat down. It doesnt matter to me. Does my place sound ok? Sure! Elijah started his car, shifted into first gear, and we drove away. Ten minutes later we reached his house. He quickly pressed the button and allowed the garage door to open. Once we were inside his house he said, You know, we really should plan our dates better. Its always raining when were together. I laughed when I realized he was right. So what do we want to do now? Do we want to finish our picnic? I can spread out the blanket in the entertainment room. As fun as that sounds, Im not really hungry anymore. We can go to the other room though. Its through those doors. Its the first room on the right. Ill be in there in a minute. Would you like anything to drink? No thank you! I called. I had left the kitchen and was wandering around. The house was beautiful. The walls were covered with fancy pictures. They must have cost him a fortune. As I walked past some more rooms I noticed there were many candles. Surely he hadnt decorated this place on his own. The place was lovely. Hey! Where are you going? Elijah asked. The room is down here. Oops! Sorry! I was just caught up in all the pictures you have here. Theyre beautiful! Who decorated your house for you? I walked back and entered the correct room. Just me. You? Yes. Why do you looks so surprised? He asked. Its just that every guys house that Ive ever seen was covered with Doritos bags and underwear on their stereo. I laughed. I prefer to keep my underwear in the freezer. Thanks, but I really dont care where you keep your clothes. As long as you have them on Im happy. He laughed. Ok, so what would you like to do? What is there to do? Well we could find a game to play. Do you like cards? Or we could watch a movie. Would it be safe to watch a movie in this weather? Probably not. We can play cards. What do you like to play? Strip poker. I dont know what my face looked like at that moment, but he couldnt contain his laughter. Im just kidding! I actually enjoy playing speed. Speed? I sighed. I dont think Ive ever played that one before. How do you play? Elijah started spreading out the cards. Within minutes of him explaining I knew Id never win this game. From what he was saying I realized that it would need incredible eye-hand coordination. This game was not for me. We had been playing for about ten minutes when all the lights went out. Oh no! Its alright. Elijah said as he stood up. Ill go check the circuit breaker. Wait! Please dont go. What? Whats wrong? Im umm. Im scared of the dark. I said as I bit my lower lip. Well we should have some light in here though. What are you going to do? Elijah walked across the room and a dim light appeared. He continued to make his way around the large room lighting the candles as he went. After he had lit all of them he came and sat down next to me. Its still not much light. Thats ok. I smiled. Ive always been afraid of the dark. Most kids grow out of it, but for some reason I never have. So what do we want to do now? I leaned up against him and he slid his arm around my shoulders. Just talk. About what? Anything. I just want to hear you talk. Me? Am I that fascinating? No. I grinned. I just love the sound of your voice. For the next three hours we just sat on the floor and talked. I found there was nowhere else I wanted to be than in his arms, listening to the soothing sound of his voice. The next thing I remembered was Elijah saying my name. Elizabeth? Elizabeth. He gently tapped my arm and I woke up. What happened? Where am I? Youre at my house. You fell asleep. I did? I didnt mean to. I didnt get a lot of sleep last night. Well come on, Ill give you a ride home. Wait. Are you sure? About driving you home? Positive. I stood up and shook my head. My hair was in complete disarray. I couldnt believe I had fallen asleep. I was a horrible date. Elijah had already picked up my jacket and helped me put it on. It wasnt long before we were back at my place. He walked me to my door. I had a great time today. I said sleepily. So did I. I found myself just staring into his eyes. Elijah moved closer and used his hand to gently caress my cheek. His hand then slid down and he touched my lower lip with his thumb. The lip-gloss had worn off long ago. My eyes no longer desired to look into his. My eyes traveled down and focused on his lips. Moments later, I felt his hand beneath my chin. He tilted my face upward and then his warm lips met mine. Emotions and thoughts filled my mind. I felt desire and fear. I had never kissed a man like this before. In fact, I had never kissed anyone but him. Was I doing it right? I tried not to let it get in my way. I moved my arms and draped them around his neck. Moments passed and the kiss seemed to end almost as quickly as it began. Elijah pulled away and smiled. I definitely had a wonderful time tonight. Can I call you tomorrow? All I managed to do was nod. He leaned over one more time and kissed my cheek. Ill call you. With that he walked away. I stood outside my door and watched him until he went down the stairs. Seconds later he appeared at the bottom. He turned towards the building and smiled when he saw me. He gave a small wave as he disappeared into his car. I returned to my apartment. He kissed me. He actually kissed me! The last time I tried to kiss a boy was in the third grade. He cried and ran away. I could still feel his warm lips on mine. The taste of him lingered in my mouth as I drifted off, my lips still swollen from the most wonderful kiss ever. It had been as enchanting as his eyes. I went to sleep with a satisfied grin on my face. I was in paradise. |

Chapter 7 | ||
|
The next few months were the best months of my life. Three weeks after our initial meeting at the coffee shop, I was swamped with finals. There was definitely no extra time to spend with Elijah. I spent many late nights studying.
The night before my last exam, I heard a loud knock echo through the apartment. I smiled expectantly when I opened the door. My eyes fell in disappointment when I saw that no one was there. Right as I was about to close the door I saw a cluster of daisies that were tied together with a yellow ribbon. My face brightened as I read the words on the attached card. To the prettiest gal I know, Good luck on your exam tomorrow. With all that studying youve been doing, I know youll do great! Ill call you tomorrow night. Elijah I ended up doing fantastic on my final. Elijah had also been true to his word and called the next evening. After all that studying, going out with him was a real treat. Before I knew it, weeks were flying by. A month after school ended, he and I were officially a couple. He was my first boyfriend. I didnt know it would take twenty years before I finally had one! He was all I ever wanted and more. A few more weeks went by and before I knew it the fourth of July had arrived. Elijah had some people over for a barbeque. Even though he and I had become practically inseparable I hadnt met any of his friends until that day. We hadnt really hung out with too many people other than each other. When I arrived at Elijahs house his friends welcomed me with open arms. I should have figured that his friends would be just like him. They were clever, witty, amusing, nice and a heck of a lot of fun! Right before we sat down to eat, my best friend Grace showed up. Shes three years older than me. Weve been friends since high school. The way she puts it is that she took a liking to a young confused freshman. She had been a senior and graduated only a few months after our friendship began. That never seemed to change our friendship though. She attended the local community college just as I was doing. Elijah had been the first to notice she had arrived. They hadnt met before but they certainly knew a lot about each other. I introduced her to everyone else and we sat down to eat. Mid-way through the meal I caught Grace grinning at me. Then with a slight movement of her head she motioned towards Elijah. She winked. I was thrilled that she liked him. He and I both had the approval of our friends. That meant a lot to me. I couldnt continue in this new relationship if the people he loved wouldnt accept me. About a month went by and it was the middle of August. My feelings had continued to grow. I loved him. I know people have always said that you cant have feelings that strong so soon. I didnt care. I was in love with him and there was no denying it. Grace knew. She said she could see it in my smile. A few weeks prior she started pushing me to tell him. I was scared to do it. I knew it wasnt too soon to be in love, but to actually tell him that I was? I feared that he wouldnt feel the same. How would he react? The last thing I wanted to do was scare him off. It would break my heart if I were to lose him. |

Chapter 8 | ||
|
The last week of August Elijah had called me and asked if we could get together. He said he had something important to talk to me about. When I agreed he told me he'd be over soon and then hung up. What did he want to talk to me about? I quickly cleaned things up and began to pace in front of the door. Thoughts continued to rush into my head. What did he want? The urgency in his voice is what bothered me. My thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door.
I opened the door and smiled cheerfully. Elijah was wearing a white t-shirt and semi-baggy jeans. My eyes traveled up towards his face and that's when my smile ceased. He didn't look so good. He looked more serious than I'd ever seen him before. His face was completely sober and a couple days worth of stubble ran across his jaw line. Without a word I let him in. He walked towards the living room, as I stood there. Something was definitely wrong. He hadn't kissed me. Whenever we saw each other he gave me a quick kiss. I slowly closed the door and joined him in the next room. When he saw me enter the room he approached me. "Elizabeth." "Yes?" "II" That was all that came out of his mouth. I looked at him curiously, trying to figure out the problem. However, he didn't give me much time to think. I was caught off guard when he grasped my face. He buried his fingers in my hair while roughly pressing his lips against mine. What was happening to me? Why had he changed so suddenly? I found myself liking this side of Elijah. His tongue soon found its way into my mouth as mine slipped into his. I could feel the light rise and fall of his chest as he pulled me closer. His tongue was now exploring my mouth, playing with my tongue. I had never felt anything like this before. I could definitely get used to this. As we continued to kiss, my arms slowly moved up until they were hanging from his neck. Then he broke off the kiss and held me at arms length. He was breathing harder than when he first arrived. I stood there more confused than ever. Im sorry. He whispered. Dont be. No, Im sorry I didnt kiss you like this sooner. He leaned in and once again pressed his lips against mine. This time I was the one who broke the kiss. What is going on? I asked him. I pushed him away and walked into the next room to sit down. He followed right behind me and joined me as I settled on the couch. For the next minute all I could hear was the ticking of the clock. The silence was almost unbearable. I had to know what was going on. Elijah, what is it? Whats wrong? Theres nothing wrong. Then why did you sound so desperate on the phone? Elizabeth, he paused as gathered my small hands into his. I cant think of an eloquent way to say this. Then just say it like it is! This conversation was driving me crazy. What did he want to say? How hard could it be to say something? Wed never had this much trouble communicating before. Seconds later he spoke again. My head snapped up as he said three words that changed my life forever. I love you. Elijah gently squeezed my hands. Elizabeth, I love you. I was stunned. I didnt know what to say. This was my chance! The moment Id been waiting for. I needed to tell him. These thoughts continued to race through my mind. I guess I spoke too soon. Elijah sighed as he released my hands and stood up. I should go then. Elijah! Wait! I stood up. Please stay. I have something I want to tell you too. Elijah turned towards me with sadness in his eyes, Yeah? I love you too. |

Chapter 9 | ||
|
The night we confessed our feelings was something I knew I'd always remember. After I spoke he turned around and hugged me. He didn't say a word. Once he released me from his embrace we went to the couch. He sat down. I took a seat right next to him and turned slightly when he put his arms around me. We talked for hours. I was utterly content to lie in his arms, listening to him whisper in my ear.
I don't know when I fell asleep, but the next thing I remembered was the sun shining through the windows. I was stretched out on the couch with a blanket on top of me. I shook my head and waited a moment as my eyes adjusted to the light. Elijah was gone. He must have had some work to do. I yawned as I rose to my feet. The world seemed to spin as I went to make my coffee. I entered the kitchen and noticed that there was a note tucked under my coffee mug. I grinned as I read what was written. Good morning, Beautiful! Sorry I had to leave early this morning. I have a few things I need to get done. Considering your addiction to coffee I figured this would be the first place you'd go. I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about you. I hope your classes go well. Have a great day! I love you. Elijah P.S. I'll give you a call later. I talked with Grace before I left for school. She was so excited for me. It was great to have someone to share my excitement with. I went through the day with a smile glued to my face. There were no words to express the happiness I felt. I thought I was going to burst! When I got home that evening I heard beeping coming from the answering machine. I pushed the button and Elijah's voice filled the room. "Hey Elizabeth! I miss you. I'll be coming over around 7. I love you. See you soon. Bye." This was soon one of many messages I received through out the days ahead. A smiled appeared on my face every time I heard him say that he loved me. About the third week in September he and I had a serious discussion. He brought up the idea of me moving in with him. My heart screamed yes, but I definitely had to think it through. After some discussion and serious thinking I finally told him yes. Throughout the next two weeks life was amazing. One would almost have thought we were newlyweds the way he and I had been acting. Soon came October 4th. That was a day I will never forget. It was perfect. He had come home with a bouquet of daisies. He had always known they were my favorite flower. We sat down to dinner and laughed together as we always did. He was a complete nerd and very corny at times. It only made me love him more. When we finished dinner we decided to take a walk. He and I walked to the nearby park. We were there for a good half hour before we started to feel small drops of rain hit our skin. We laughed and began walking back home. All our hopes of making it back before it started pouring were destroyed. Halfway there the rain began to hit hard. I shrieked when the drops hit my neck. Moments later when it started to get cold, I decided to run the rest of the way. I completely left Elijah behind. He laughed when he realized I wasn't going to stop and wait for him. I don't know how far behind he was, but when I reached the house I stepped inside and shook my head. I must have looked like a drowned rat. I started walking up the stairs to my room so I could change. Elijah could find me when he got home. |

The next morning I woke up in disbelief. I was warm, comfortable and completely undressed! How was that possible? I nearly gasped when I noticed the source of my warmth. Elijah. He was undressed as well. Then for the first time, I noticed he was still lying with his arm around me. Suddenly the memories of the previous night flooded my mind. Had I really done that? I couldn't believe myself! Why had I done that? "Because I love him." I thought. "And he loves me."
I gave Elijah a soft smile even though he was still asleep. It was time to get up. I gently slid out of his embrace so that I wouldn't wake him. After shaking my head I gathered my scattered clothes from around the bed and headed off to take a shower. It was quite unusual for me take such a long shower. I was a bit sore and the warm water cascading down my body was soothing. When I got out of the shower, I immediately grabbed a towel and wrapped it around myself. I decided to peek through a crack in the door. Elijah was still asleep. "What a bum." I thought as I looked at the clock. It was nearly one! He looked so peaceful. I just didn't have the heart to wake him. I quietly got dressed and treaded softly down the stairs. There never seemed to be anything to eat. After some searching I finally found a box of cereal in the back of the cupboard. I looked at the expiration date. It had expired the week before. "Oh well." I thought as I chuckled. "I've eaten worse." I had been eating quietly for a few minutes when suddenly I felt a pair of arms surround my waist. Good morning, Beautiful. Good morning. I snuggled against him. Elijah hung onto my waist as he softly kissed my cheek. I smiled as we both waited in silence for each other to say something. After a minute or two I spoke. So what are you doing today? I have a meeting at three oclock, he replied. You? Grace and I planned to go shopping today. Afterwards were going to go get a cup of coffee. You and your coffee. He muttered as he released me. Who got you hooked on that stuff anyway? Grace. I laughed. She made the worst mistake of her life. Hey! I said as I smacked his arm. Elijah just shook his head as I hit him. Come here. He took me in his arms and placed a soft kiss on my lips. Have a great day Elizabeth. Ill see you tonight. Having said that he turned and headed back upstairs to take a shower. * * * * * Whats up with you, Elizabeth? Grace laughed as we sat down with our coffee. What do you mean? You havent been able to wipe that goofy grin off your face all afternoon! Not all afternoon. Yes! Every single second. What happened with Elijah? Why do you think this has to do with Elijah? Honey, everything has to do with him. So spill. Well I stalled. Come on. You can do it. Well last night we slept together. Oh really? Yes. I blushed. After a few moments of silence she sighed. Dont you think that was kind of soon? I suppose a little bit." I paused. "I love him. I know you do. Just be careful. Dont worry, Grace. I will. Ok. Well if youre happy then Im happy. |

A month later is when my life began to turn upside down. One evening he and I were lying on the couch watching a movie. When it had finished and the TV was turned off, Elijah spoke.
Elizabeth... Yeah? A friend of mine invited us to a party next week. Oh? Yeah. Do you want to go? Sure. Why not? Have I met this friend before? Nope. Sorry Hon, none of those guys will be there. Oh. Dont worry. He said when he noticed the uncertain look on my face. If you get uncomfortable I promise I wont leave your side. That wont be hard at all. He Smirked. Ok good. I just may hold you to that. * * * * * The night of the party was cool and rainy. I spent almost an hour in front of my closet looking for an outfit. "Elijah I can't find anything to wear." "I'm sure you'll look great in whatever you decide to wear. Who do you need to impress, anyways? You've got me." He said as he came into my room. I thought about his question for a minute. It was true. I already had him, but I loved him, and I still wanted to impress him. I also wanted to impress his friends. I could tell they were important to him, and I wanted them to like me. I stood in front of my closet for another minute before picking out my outfit. A pair of black pants, a red spaghetti strap tank top with a white button up three quarter length sleeve shirt over it. It was perfect. I brushed by Elijah, who was sitting on my bed reading a magazine and went into my bathroom. I put on my outfit and put my hair into a bun, letting the curls fall down. I put on a little bit of lip gloss and brushed a light pink blush onto my cheeks, then sprayed Elijah's favorite scent on my neck. I walked out of my bathroom and stood in front of Elijah. He slowly raised his head to look at me. "Wow Elizabeth, you look beautiful, as always." He stood up to kiss me, but stopped when he reached my neck. "You smell beautiful. You're a perfect package." He said and gave me a soft kiss. I put my shoes on and grabbed my bag and we left. It took us about ten minutes to get to his friends house. When we arrived, everybody was already there. I looked around at all the people. Would they like me? Would they accept me? I gripped Elijah's hand tighter and he looked over at me. "You'll be fine." He assured me. I looked up at him and gave him a shy smile, as we walked further into the depths of the people. Eventually, we became separated. Some of Elijah's friends had dragged him into a so-called interesting conversation, which I found absolutely no interest in. I left the protection of Elijah's side and started to mingle with the people. At first all I said was "hi" and I threw in a shy smile. Then I found a group of people who wouldn't let me get by with just a "hi" and a smile. Her name was Summer. She was loud and she laughed a lot. I tried to walk past her, but she quickly started up a conversation with me, and I thought it rude to leave. "Hi! I'm summer, and this is my boyfriend Matt. Matt come say hi." Her boyfriend was exactly like her. "Hi Matt, I'm Elizabeth." I said quietly. "Ah, love, why are you so quiet! Are you alone? Or did you come with somebody?" He asked. I noticed Summer went back to the group, and she was laughing quite loudly. "I'm here with Elijah. He's over there talking to some people." I was trying to get away. They were much too loud for me. I almost walked off when I heard somebody in Summer's crowd say his name. "Sorry hon, did you say you're with Elijah? You must be Elizabeth, his new girlfriend. She was pretty. She was a little bit taller than I was, and her long black hair laid flat against her back. It shone in the light as she turned her head to look at me. "Yes, I'm Elizabeth." I said nervously. "I'm Jess. I used to date Elijah." I could see him with her. She was beautiful. I wondered why they had broken up. She pushed through the crowd and stood before me. "Quite the charmer, isn't he?" She said. "Yes. He's wonderful." I didn't like how the look on her face changed after I said that. I saw Matt and Summer coming back over to me. "Jess, leave her alone. You don't need to ruin it for other people. Come on She seems happy with him, and he's happy with her." Summer said. She grabbed onto Jess's arm and pulled her away. "Don't listen to her, Matt said. I was curious. I wanted to know what that look on her face meant. I decided to brush it off and walk away from the crowd. I talked to a few more people, and then I went to find Elijah. I noticed he was still talking with his friends, so I walked around for a little bit more, until I bumped into Jess again. She looked at me with that "poor baby" look in her eyes. "How long did you guys date?" I asked. "About eight months. Things just started to go really bad." She said, turning away from me. "Bad?" "Yeah He just" "Elizabeth ready to go?" I heard Elijah say from behind me. "Hello Lij." Jess said. "Hi Jess. Let's go, Elizabeth." "I was talking to people, Lij." I said calmly. He was in such a hurry to leave. "Come on Elizabeth." The tone in his voice was scaring me. I looked up at him and noticed he was glaring at Jess. He grabbed my arm and pulled me outside, all the way to the car. "Why were you talking to her?" He asked. His tone was getting louder and louder. "She was talking to me." "Well, next time I say it's time to go, then it's time to go, got it?" "What's your problem?" I yelled, to my surprise. I didn't mean to yell at him. His once calm and cheerful eyes grew dark and the grip on my arm tightened. I looked away from him. "Elizabeth, look at me!" He twisted my arm almost all the way around. I pulled away in shock and started crying. "What is wrong with you?" I backed away from him, holding my arm. I didn't know what just happened. "I don't want you to talk to them ever again." He said. "I don't want to talk to you right now." I cried. "I want to go home." I walked over to the other side of the car and waited for him to unlock the door. We didn't talk the whole way home. |
